Water Hardness And Why You Need to Eliminate It
Water Hardness

So, you bought yourself a new dress and wore it at a party. With all the compliments you are receiving in the dress, you are quite proud of wearing it. You go home and think of washing it and pack it in the closet. After washing you notice that the dress has lost its luster and looks ordinary. What do you think happened? The water you washed it in was hard water and it is solely responsible for ruining the quality of the dress. The hard water is full of a certain component known as lime scale.

Lime scale Explained in Detail

Lime scale is produced when hard water is boiled above 51°C. Also, when it gets evaporated on facades such as faucets and showerheads, lime scale starts forming. Lime scale makes water hard and carries high amounts of calcium and magnesium ions.

These minerals are hard and filled with calcium and magnesium carbonate, are what accelerate out of hard water to develop lime scale. Hence, to refine or eliminate limescale, we require something that will dissolve or diminish both carbonates out of the water.

Certain acids tend to dissolve anything it comes in contact with. Here is the following list of acids that will dissolve lime scale in a jiffy.

1) Citric acid

One of the acids that clean the lime scale is citric acid. It is present to some degree in all citrus fruits. Lemons are a great example as it owns the highest concentration. Lemon juice is better than vinegar and is capable of leaving a present smell. One way to defeat this problem is to dip a cloth in lemon juice, cover it around the tap and leave overnight.

2) Acetic acid

One of the best examples of acetic acids is vinegar. Often found in every home these days. It diminishes the lime scale easily. If you want to remove lime scale out of your kettle, mix a cup of water with vinegar. Boil the solution and keep it overnight. The next day cleans the kettle and it will be as good as new. Also, if you want to clean the showerheads, soaking it in the solution of vinegar will be of great help.

3) Lactic acid

Lactic acid is also known as milk acid is often used as a good lime scale remover. The formation of lactic acid is derived from lactose, often found in milk. It is broken down by bacteria and is especially found in sour milk. However, it is not recommended by any expert to remove water hardness with sour milk. But it is a great solution to clean kettles, coffee machines and home irons.

4) Sulphamic acid

Sulphamic acid is generally utilized in industrial lime scale cleaning products. It is considered the less hazardous option comparatively to hydrochloric acid. But it is an effective solution to remove lime scale from your daily use equipment.

There is a list of acids that may not be suitable for everyone and can be quite hazardous. But there is an option that can save you all kinds of hassles and that is a water softening system. One of the best water softening systems is Acqua Brevetti MiniDUE Liquid Water Softener

The water softening system restores the calcium and magnesium contents in hard water by sodium. Sodium does not grow in pipes and also is non-reactive to all kinds of soaps. The source of the water softening system is not tough to understand. When the hard water enters the water softener, a sheet of plastic beads and in some cases, the element used is known as Zeolite. The element present inside the water softener is merged with sodium ions. Then sodium is replaced and comes in contact with hard water, calcium, and magnesium. As soon as the water is dispersed out of the softener, the water is known as the soft water type. Soft water is the purest and does not contain any kind of impurities at all.
