A tankless reverse osmosis system that purifies your drinking water and then puts calcium back in at the last stage, so it tastes like water rather than nothing. A 600 GPD membrane and a built in pump keep pace with normal kitchen use, there is no storage tank, and the smart tap tells you when a cartridge is due. The price includes installation for addresses in Ireland.

Why the Balance is different

Reverse osmosis removes almost everything dissolved in water, including the minerals that give it body. Some people never notice. Others find plain RO water tastes thin, and that is the most common reason someone is disappointed with an otherwise excellent system. The CROSS 90 Balance solves it in the last cartridge, which adds calcium back after purification and brings the finished water to 40 to 70 mg/L TDS. Pure, but with something in it.

Key features

  • Five stages in three cartridges: a complex prefilter, a 600 GPD membrane, and a combined carbon block and mineralising postfilter. Fewer parts and fewer connections than a multi housing system
  • Removes up to 99.8% of contaminants, including PFAS, chlorine, heavy metals and the dissolved minerals that cause limescale
  • No storage tank. Water is purified as you draw it, and the cupboard stays usable
  • 60% recovery rate, so about six litres in every ten reach your glass
  • Smart tap with LED status. Colour coded warnings and an audible alert as cartridge life runs down. One beep means nearly due, two means change it
  • Leak sensor and automatic membrane flushing
  • Cartridge changes in under 7 minutes. Twisting a cartridge out shuts the inlet automatically, so nothing spills. No tools
  • Booster pump fitted as standard

What you notice

  • No chlorine taste or smell
  • Water that tastes full rather than flat
  • Better tea and cleaner coffee
  • No white scale film inside the kettle
  • Clear ice cubes, and no more carrying bottles home

The system is designed for treated mains water that already meets drinking water standards. It is not a treatment for water of unknown quality, and a private well normally needs iron, manganese or disinfection treatment upstream before an RO system goes in.

Cartridge replacement

  • CF complex prefilter, every 12 months
  • MCB carbon block and mineralising postfilter, every 12 months
  • 600 GPD membrane, every 24 months

The tap and the front panel both signal when a change is due. After fitting a new cartridge, hold the matching reset button for 5 seconds. The indicator blinks purple twice and then turns solid blue.

What is included

  • CROSS 90 Balance unit with the full cartridge set fitted
  • Smart tap with LED status indicator
  • 3 way connector and drain saddle
  • Tubing and detachable power supply
  • User manual
  • Installation, for addresses in Ireland

Before we install

  • A 230 V socket within reach of the unit. The standard cable is about a metre
  • Mains pressure between 2 and 5 bar
  • The unit stands 435 mm tall and 140 mm wide, so it fits most standard under sink cupboards
  • Granite, quartz or composite worktops without a spare tap hole need core drilling, which we quote separately

Once you order we text you a date and time. Every system comes with a 1 year parts warranty.

Questions

Will the added calcium cause limescale?

No. At 40 to 70 mg/L it is a fraction of what is in untreated hard water, and nowhere near enough to scale a kettle.

Is it noisy?

The pump runs at roughly 40 to 50 dB while making water, about the level of a quiet fridge. Most of what you hear is vibration where the unit touches the cupboard or rigid pipework, which rubber feet or dampers reduce.

Can it feed a 3 in 1 designer tap instead of the supplied one?

Usually, yes. It uses a standard ¼ inch tube connection and most 3 in 1 taps accept that or come with an adaptor. The tap must have a genuinely separate channel for the filtered water. Using a different tap means losing the LED cartridge status on the supplied one.

Can I pair it with a softener?

Yes. For limescale protection through the whole house plus this system at the tap, see our softener bundles.
